22 Savage

22 Savage takes the internet by storm.

Baton Rouge rapper MacArthur Johnson has minor waves across the internet with music videos released under a variety of personas, including Mighty Mike, Funny Ass Mike, and girlhefunny. Now he has recast himself as 22 Savage in a bald-faced attempt to capitalize on the recent success of 21 Savage.

"I just felt like jacking him," 22 Savage said in an interview with SOHH. "I’m really a savage out here. I’m really in the slums. What people don’t understand is that underneath this funny, it’s really real. We’re in the streets. I’m a street nigga trying to make it out anyway I can."

22 Savage, who bears a close resemblance to 21 Savage, has co-opted 21's rapping style on numerous tracks and recently announced plans to release a mixtape called Savage Mode.

PARTYNEXTDOOR & Jeremih Announce Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

PARTYNEXTDOOR & Jeremih Announce "Summer's Over" Tour Dates

Jeremih and PartyNextDoor are headed on tour together this November.

In June of this year, two r'n'b singers, Jeremih and PartyNextDoor, revealed they've been working on a joint album. The project is set to be titled Late Night Party, however since the announcement a few months back, we haven't received an update or any music from the two, for that matter.

All hope isn't lost though, because the two have just announced a set of tour dates today, which is hopefully also an indicator that Late Night Party is still on the way. "Summer's Over" tour will find PND and Jeremih visiting 13 cities through out November and December, mainly in the States with one stop in Toronto, Canada.

An interview with Mick Jenkins.

“In the woods, we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life, -- no disgrace, no calamity (leaving me my eye), which nature cannot repair. Standing on the bare ground, -- my head bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space, -- all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eyeball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part and parcel of God.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Nature”

While the rest of the rap game dwelled on material gain, Mick Jenkins’ 2014 breakout tape The Water[s] explored water as a metaphor for wisdom, clarity, & rebirth. His outstanding new debut album The Healing Component goes deeper and explores the bedrock of his existence: his faith.

The album is fiery sermon throughout which Jenkins preaches self-love and advises his congregation of listeners to extend a “middle finger to the pessimistic.” Seldom has a rap album been so explicitly instructive, or lyrically stunning. The Healing Component distinguishes Jenkins, even among the remarkable new generation of Chicago hip hop artists. He currently resides in a two-bedroom apartment on the Southside with his cousin Denzel and his cat Shikamaru. It won’t be long before he’s moved to a nicer place.

Shortly before the release of The Healing Component, Jenkins spoke to HNHH about the making of the album, how he has strengthened his relationship with God, and how he embodies the truism: a writer is working when he stares out the window.

Cudi Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

Cudi

"A lot of y'all favorite artists wouldn't be y'all favorite artists if it wasn't for Cudi."

Earlier this month, Kid Cudiunexpectedly dissed Drake and Kanye West and complimented an assortment of other hip hop artists, that included Audio Push, in one fell swoop. "All my youngins out here reppin," he wrote, "Asap Rocky and the whole ASAP family, Travis Scott, SuperDuper Kyle, Audio Push, Hit Boy, etc, I see yall."

During a recent stop by the HNHH office, Audio Push spoke on the shoutout and Cudi's vast influence.

"Cudi has brought us a couple times on the internet, so it's pretty sick," Oktane said. "But just to see it randomly there, it was like, 'WOAH.'"

"God, with a lowercase 'G'," added Price.

Audio Push collaborated with Cudi on the 2014 release "Scorn." The duo was effusive in their praise of Cudi. "The other times it happened, I was stoked," Oktane said. "But then we brought it up in the middle of what he was talking about, I was like, 'Damn, we must really be something that he gives a fuck about.' Now I'm really in super mode... all my heroes done already told me our shit is dope, so it's like, I don't care what a hater nigga has to say no more."

"The thing I love about Cudi is he's unapologetically real," Price said. "He birthed so much of, not even the new generation of artists, but a lot of y'all favorite artists wouldn't be y'all favorite artists if it wasn't for Cudi."

Kaytranada with Andre Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

Kaytranada with Andre

Kaytranada apparently hit the studio with Andre 3000.

1/2 of the legendary duo OutKast, Andre 3000, remains an elusive figure in the rap world, but we've been seeing him pop up here and there lately, giving us hope that he could still one day release a solo project.

Three Stacks made an appearance on Travis Scott's Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight as well as Frank Ocean's Blond, and just today it was revealed that he'll be on Kid Cudi's forthcoming album too. It looks like he's not done cooking though, as Montreal-bred producer Kaytranada shared a Snapchat of himself and Andre 3k, apparently taken during a studio session. It's worth noting Kaytranada is relatively fresh off the release of his debut album, and even fresher off the release of a mixtape 0.001%.

Take a look at a screenshot of the Snapchat above. We'll let you know if more details arrive as to what they're working on.

Mac Miller's "The Divine Feminine" Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

Mac Miller's "The Divine Feminine"

Mac Miller's "The Divine Feminine" makes a #2 debut on the Billboard 200.

Mac Miller's new album, The Divine Feminine, took Mac's sound in a pointedly new direction, something which he spoke on pretty heavily leading up to the album's release. Although he knew some might consider it a risk, it looks like the risk has paid off, as the rapper makes a very strong Billboard 200 debut.

The Divine Feminine enters the charts at #2, after moving 48,000 unit, of which 32,000 are physical copies. Each of Mac Miller's full length albums have debuted within the Billboard 200's top 5, although his last album, GO:OD AM, had the lowest entry at #4 (despite moving 87,000 units).

Usher also makes his Billboard 200 with his new album, Hard II Love, and he's coming slightly below Mac at #5 after moving 38,000 copies.

Drake's "VIEWS" Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

Drake's "VIEWS"

Drake's "VIEWS" is the first album to hit the billion benchmark on Apple Music

Drake's VIEWS album has already topped the Billboard 200 chart over and over, but he's now adding another achievement to VIEWS' continued success, this time breaking an Apple Music record.

Champagne Papi took to Instagram to make the announcement himself. The rapper shared a plaque from the streaming service, which shows that his most recent album has been streamed over a billion times on Apple Music. Not only that, it's become the first album to reach such a number on Apple Music.

Drake recently released the album along with What A Time To Be Alive and If You're Reading This It's Too Late on vinyl. He also revealed he's been working on new music as of late, while he continues to tour with Future for "Summer Sixteen" tour.

Congrats to Drake!

Kylie and Tyga Friday, 30 September 2016 00:00

Kylie and Tyga

Kylie Jenner will reportedly be brought in for questioning regarding a lawsuit against Tyga.

Tyga's got lawsuits a plenty, some dating back years ago. In 2013 he was sued by a celebrity jeweler, Jason Arasheben, for allegedly owing him "excess of $270,000." The lawsuit has yet to be resolved, and now it appears as though Tyga's girlfriend is being thrown into the mix.

Arasheben's attorney, Danny Abir, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the case, and reveals plans to not only question Tyga about how he is able to support his overtly luxurious lifestyle, but he plans to bring Kylie in for questioning as well. Kylie has received several extravagant gifts from the rapper, the most recent gift probably being a diamond promise ring.

Court documents reportedly show that the couple must make themselves available for questioning "between now and Oct. 6." They will be questioned in a private setting as opposed to a court room, according to the jeweler's attorney. Both Kylie and Tyga will be questioned separately.

"Our client, Jason of Beverly Hills, has a judgment against [Tyga]. Until he pays off this judgment, unless he has other means of paying off this obligation and does, his sources of income used to buy these extravagant gifts or to support such a lifestyle should be used to satisfy his obligation," the attorney told ET. "That potentially includes the gifts themselves."

Abir added, "We will ask him questions related to his finances, such as to his source of income to support his lifestyle as well as to pay for the extravagant gifts he buys Ms. Jenner," he added. "He will have to answer under oath and so will Ms. Jenner."

We'll keep you posted as this lawsuit unravels.
